KOTA KINABALU: An elderly woman was found unconscious outside her house in Sandakan district after she was believed to have been attacked by robbers.

The 70-year-old was found sprawled on the ground by her son at about 2.30pm last Friday (April 12).

Her handphone and handbag were also missing.

Sandakan police chief Asst Comm Mohd Azhar Hamin said the woman was found with bruises on her head.

“He then brought her to the Duchess of Kent Hospital and the doctors treated injuries they believe are due to a beating from a blunt object,” he said in a statement on Monday (April 15).

He said the son only lodged a police report on the matter two days later as the mother needed to recuperate before she could give information on the 11.30am incident.

ACP Azhar said an inspection on the scene also found signs of a break-in from the fence beside the victim’s house.

“We are still investigating the total losses incurred and are tracking down the suspects,” he said.

The woman is recovering and is in a stable condition.
