KUALA LUMPUR: Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad has added another feather to his illustrious cap – this time by way of an honorary PhD in business management.
The award was conferred on the Prime Minister by the Asia School of Business (ASB) dean, Prof Charles Fine, at the convocation of the Master’s of Business Administration class of 2019 here yesterday.
Set up in 2015, ASB is a collaboration between Bank Negara and MIT Sloan School of Management in the United States.
In his speech, Dr Mahathir advised the graduating class to continue their pursuit of knowledge with the right moral values at heart.
“Knowledge is powerful but without the right values it will become futile,” he said.
Dr Mahathir said there were many instances where smart individuals with wrong intentions created “disruption” when they failed to differentiate between good and bad.
“Work humbly and generously. Be open to new ideas, and the possibility of being wrong.
“We also need to learn how to be a better human being.
“If we truly aspire to see society progress and prosper, it is incumbent upon each of us to use the skills and knowledge we have acquired not just for personal gain but collectively contribute to the betterment of society,” he said.
Also present was former Bank Negara governor Tan Sri Dr Zeti Akhtar Aziz, who is co-chair of ASB’s board of governors.
