JOHOR BARU: A 10-month-old toddler was killed, while her parents suffered serious injuries in an accident at Jalan Lingkaran Dalam here.
The victim, identified as Nur Auliya Inara Mohamad Nirzaudy Haiqal, died at the emergency ward of Hospital Sultanah Aminah at about 1.50am Sunday (April 14).
Johor Baru (South) OCPD Asst Comm Shahurinain Jais said the victim was in the front seat with her mother when the incident occurred at about 1.15am Sunday.
"The family was on their way back to their home in Tampoi Utama when the mishap happened.
"Nur Auliya Inira's father, Mohamad Nirzaudy Haiqal Abdullah, 29, who was driving and her mother, Wan Nur Izzaty Wan Mohd Zaffar, 22, also suffered serious injuries and are being treated at the Red Zone in Hospital Sultanah Aminah," he said when contacted here Sunday.
ACP Shahurinain added that Nur Auliya Inira's two-year-old sister, who was in the back seat, suffered light injuries to her left foot.
"The accident happened after their car was hit by another vehicle from the back, causing them to lose control.
"The impact of the collision caused the car to skid to the left side of the road, before slamming a road divider and spinning for about 30m before flipping over in the middle of the road," he said.
He added that a 43-year-old man, who drove the car that rammed into Mohamad Nirzaudy's car, has been arrested to assist investigations.
"We have done a urine test on the suspect and he tested negative for drugs.
"The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987," he said, adding the man did not suffer any injuries.
ACP Shahurinain added that a post-mortem will be conducted on the toddler at Hospital Sultanah Aminah.
