SEREMBAN: Pakatan Harapan’s defeat in the Rantau by-election is a reminder for the ruling coalition to focus on the people’s plight, says Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
The PKR president said the defeat was a reminder for Pakatan leaders to continue giving appropriate attention to the people’s concerns about the economy and cost of living.
“Pakatan respects the decision and congratulates the winner, Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan.
“This decision (Barisan Nasional winning) in the state assembly seat is a decision by the people,” he said in a statement.
Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun said the loss was already expected as they went into the by-election as an underdog.
“Rantau has always been a Barisan fortress and it was difficult for Pakatan to have won it.
“From day one I have maintained that capturing Rantau would be tough as Mohamad has been the former mentri besar for three terms,” he said.
Aminuddin, who is also Pakatan election director, said he told their candidate Dr S. Streram to go home as he must have been tired after 14 days of campaigning.
“I told him to come back in a day or two and we will speak to the press.
“I want him to get his deserved rest first,” he said.
