91 reports lodged over Facebook post insulting King

PETALING JAYA: Bukit Aman has received 91 police reports over a Facebook posting that insulted the Yang di-Pertuan Agong, says Tan Sri Mohamad Fuzi Harun.

The Inspector-General of Police said the reports made nationwide were against Facebook user Sabah-Sarawak Merdeka, who had allegedly modified a photo of Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah.

“We are investigating the matter under Section 4(1)(a) of the Sedition Act.

“Those arrested can be fined not more than RM5,000 or face up to three years’ jail or both upon conviction,” he said in a statement.

The country’s top cop also advised the public not to misuse social media or any communication network to incite provocation that could disrupt public order.

The IGP’s statement came after Home Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin tasked Bukit Aman with investigating and taking serious action against the culprits.

Muhyiddin had condemned the posting, saying: “Modifying the photo is an act that insults the monarchy and it is clearly against the law.”
