KUALA LUMPUR: Two men, one high on the wanted list, were arrested after they tried ram the police in their bid to escape.
The policemen reacted quickly by shooting at the tyres to stop them from fleeing during the 6.15pm incident in Taman Melawati on Thursday.
Deputy Ampang Jaya OCPD Supt Mohd Zaid Hassan said background checks showed that one of the suspects had a criminal record for eight offences.
He said police also found a machete, a modified Allen key, four spanners, several screwdrivers, cutters, as well as a mask and gloves.
“The car they were in was reported stolen near Kepong.
“The driver lost control of the car which crashed into four other vehicles at the scene.
“Both suspects, aged 25 and 38, were detained on the spot to assist in investigations into attempted murder and possession of dangerous weapons,” he said.
Supt Mohd Zaid said follow-up investigations led to the seizure of another car that was reported stolen in Selayang.
On the success, he said two policemen on motorcycles were conducting crime prevention patrol in the area when they spotted the occupants inside the car acting suspiciously.
“When they approached the car to carry out an inspection, the driver attempted to flee by reversing into their motorcycles.
“Our personnel had to open fire to stop them,” he said.
