KUCHING: Sarawak General Operations Force seized 2,300 boxes of beer, valued at RM516,000, which also saw the arrest of four men.
The suspects, aged between 22 and 33, were detained under Op Libas at KM90 Jalan Kuching-Sri Aman in the wee hours of Thursday.
Brigade commander Datuk Khaw Kok Chin said acting on a tip-off and its own intelligence, as well as cooperation from the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission, two lorries used to transport the contraband were stopped at 1.30am.
“Our teams were forced to tail the two lorries for 320km from Jalan Lanang, Sibu, to Sungai Menyan, Serian, before asking them to pull over.
“Upon inspection, both lorries were each found carrying 1,150 boxes of beer, believed to have been smuggled in for the local market,” he told a press conference yesterday. — Bernama
