Segamat govt officer jailed

JOHOR BARU: A 37-year-old civil servant was sentenced to 14 days’ jail and fined RM15,000 by the Sessions Court here for receiving a RM10,000 bribe four years ago for a supply service work.

Judge Kamarudin Kamsun ordered Norhayati Iskar to serve a one-year jail term if she fails to pay the fine.

Norhayati, an assistant officer at the Sports and Youth Segamat District office, was charged with receiving RM10,000 from the owner of SA Affandi Enterprise company, Syed Azrol Affandi Syed Rahmad, at her office in

October 2015.

The company had been ap­­point­ed as the service provider for the Segamat District Sports League 2015.

Investigation showed the RM10,000 was used by Norhayati to go for a holiday with her friends in Kundasang, Sabah, from March 17-20 in 2016.

The accused was arrested by the Segamat Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission on May 22, 2017, and charged on Wed­nesday.

Norhayati paid the RM15,000 fine.
