Jasin OCPD Deputy Supt Arshad Abu said the victim, P. Kanashan, sustained two gunshots on his stomach and left knee but was in stable condition.

"Kanashan was gardening in his own smallholding on Keretapi Tanah Melayu Berhad reserve land when the incident occurred," he said on Wednesday (April 10).

He said the victim was rushed to Selandar Clinic here and a 0.4cm-sized bullet that was lodged in his knee was extracted.

DSP Arshad said eyewitnesses saw two men fleeing soon after the shooting incident.

"We are now checking the database of licensed hunters from Jasin, Alor Gajah and Gemenceh in Negri Sembilan to narrow down their identities," he said.

DSP Arshad said wildlife hunting was prohibited in the area, adding that the case was being investigated under Section 39(a) of the Firearm Act 1960.
