JOHOR BARU: Five men were arrested for allegedly selling ketum juice at a house in Jalan Serampang, Taman Pelangi, here.
Johor Baru (South) OCPD ACP Shahurinain Jais said that the suspects, aged 26 to 52 were arrested during a raid on Tuesday (April 9) at 4.30pm.
"Initial investigations revealed that one of the suspects had confessed his involvement in the selling and that the ketum juice and leaves belonged to him.
"According to the suspect, he got the supply from a man named 'Lan' from Kedah," he said in a statement here on Wednesday (April 10).
He added that all suspects had also confessed that they boiled and packed the ketum juice in the house which they sold for RM5 per litre.
ACP Shahurinain also said that his team also managed to seize 150 litres of ketum juice, 26kg of ketum leaves, and 10 50ml bottles of cough syrup valued at RM3,100.
"We also seized items such a barrel, gas tank, stove and other items used to process the juice.
"The cough syrup we seized was bought at a nearby pharmacy where it would be mixed with the ketum juice," he added.
He also informed that the suspects had been actively selling ketum for the past two months.
He added that four of the suspects also had previous criminal records including Section 12(2) of the Dangerous Drugs Act, Section 6(1) of the Corrosive and Explosive Substances and Offensive Weapons Act 1958, Section 395 of the Penal Code.
The case is investigated under Section 30(3) Poisons Act 1952.
