IPOH: A steering committee to look into the expansion of the Sultan Azlan Shah Airport has been set up by the state government.
State Industry, Investment and Corridor Development Committee chairman Datuk Seri Mohammad Nizar Jamaluddin heads the committee that includes representatives from Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd (MAHB), Department of Civil Aviation and Transport Ministry.
He said it was set up two weeks ago.
“The airport is governed and administered by MAHB, but all rules and regulations are formulated by the ministry. And thus the expansion of the airport must have interaction with the three agencies,” he said.
Mohammad Nizar added that when the steering committee meeting convenes, he would make sure the representatives from the three agencies are present.
“We will give our opinion and ideas, and get their feedback. We are not transcending our limits,” he added.
He was commenting on Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Ahmad Faizal Azumu’s statement recently that the statement on an open tender on the airport “did not make the state look very smart”.
Ahmad Faizal had said that the state did not own the airport.
Mohammad Nizar said his statement recently calling for an open tender to improve airport facilities was made in his capacity as the chairman of the committee.
