KANGAR: Forty one Rohingya men were arrested by the Perlis Border Security Agency (Aksem) shortly after they were dropped off from a boat in Kampung Sungai Belati, Simpang Empat, near here.
Perlis Aksem commander Deputy Supt Syed Basri Syed Ali said the illegal immigrants from Myanmar were left on the beach under the cover of darkness by human smugglers yesterday.
“A team of our officers with help from the Kuala Kedah marine police, Simpang Empat police and a team of Rela members from Kangar raided the area before rounding them up about 7am.
“All of them were without any identification documents. They were brought to the Kuala Perlis Aksem office for further questioning,” he said, adding that they will be handed over to the Immigration Department.
DSP Syed Basri said the case was being investigated under Section 6(1) of the Immigration Act 1959/63 for failing to have valid travel documents.
