SEREMBAN: The halted 1Malaysia People’s Housing (PR1MA) scheme in Bandar Ekar, Rantau is expected to be completed by May next year, says Housing and Local Government Minister Zuraida Kamaruddin.
“Hopefully, the construction can restart as soon as possible,” she said.
She noted that the project was supposed to have been completed by Jan 31 this year.
This meant there would be a delay of 16 months, she added.
“I will personally ensure the construction work resumes,” she told reporters.
Zuraida said she had contacted the directors of PR1MA and she was informed that the contractor would proceed with the construction work.
Earlier, Zuraida mentioned that the PR1MA housing scheme consisted of 766 units, of which 210 units were single-storey while the remaining were double-storey units.
The construction cost is at RM171mil.
She said 80% of the units were sold and the units were near to 56% completion.
“Things are under control although the project has halted for six months.
“The ministry will ensure that a contractor will complete the project.
“It would be a waste if the project is abandoned as it is at 56% completion,” she said.
She added that she had arranged to meet buyers who had complained about the project.
Zuraida, who is also PKR vice-president, was here in Rantau to campaign for Pakatan Harapan candidate Dr S. Streram.
At the press conference, she said she would work with the Negri Sembilan state government and the federal government to come up with a scheme to help second and third generations of Felda settlers here in Sendayan.
“There should be a sustainable scheme to help them, and offer them job opportunities,” she said.
