SEREMBAN: PAS will deploy its machinery and agencies to campaign for Barisan Nasional candidate Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan in the Rantau by-election, says PAS Youth chief Muhammad Khalil Abdul Hadi.
“PAS Youth, Jabatan Amal and other agencies of the party all across the nation will be here to assist and ensure that the Barisan candidate wins the by-election,” he said in a ceramah to shore up support for Mohamad on Sunday (April 7).
Muhammad Khalil said the Pakatan Harapan government’s many U-turns on its decisions showed that it is not a stable government.
“For example, the decision not to ratify the International Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination (Icerd) and the withdrawal from the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court (ICC),” he said.
He said it would be difficult for an unstable government to attract foreign investment.
Muhammad Khalil also blamed DAP for playing up racial issues.
“A DAP leader has linked the merciless killings in New Zealand to the collaboration of Umno and PAS. This is playing with racial and religious sentiments,” he said.
DAP’s Mengkibol assemblyman Chew Chong Sin previously said the massacre at the two mosques in New Zealand should serve as a lesson for Malaysia on the need to curb extremism.
Chew was quoted by Malaysiakini on March 15 as saying that the Umno-PAS cooperation “can also be taken advantage of by foreign terrorist groups.”
He later retracted his comment, saying it had caused “misunderstanding”.
Meanwhile, Muhammad Khalil said the ceramah on Sunday, the first to see youth chiefs from PAS, Umno, MIC and MCA sharing a stage, showed that youngsters are sick of Pakatan.
“Barisan managed to win in the Cameron Highlands and Semenyih by-elections, showing that youngsters are sick of Pakatan, which did not fulfil its manifesto,” he said.
“Hopefully the Rantau by-election will prove this again,” he said.
MCA Youth chief Nicole Wong said some of the people in Rantau regretted their decision to vote for the then opposition in the 14th General Election (GE14) last May, and wanted Mohamad back as Mentri Besar (MB).
“When I met an aunty in Kuala Sawah, she told me she wants Tok Mat back as MB. I had to explain to her that she has to wait for a few years more,” she said at the ceramah.
Wong urged voters to support Mohamad for better checks and balances at the state assembly.
