KUCHING (Bernama): The Asean International Film Festival and Awards (AIFFA) is just 17 days away and it's getting more exciting as Hollywood star Steven Seagal will be joining the event here as a special guest.
Seagal is well known for his martial arts films such as the 1980s hit "Above The Law".
Apart from acting, he also a producer, screenwriter and musician who holds American, Serbian, and Russian citizenships.
Speaking at a press conference on Monday (April 8), state Tourism, Arts, Culture, Youth and Sports Minister Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah said Sarawak is proud to host AIFFA 2019 from April 25 to 27.
He said it was indeed heartening to receive so many entries from all of the 10 Asean member countries.
“This clearly shows that AIFFA is strongly supported from all parties in Asean,” he said.
AIFFA is a biennial competition for filmmakers from the 10 Asean countries and it was first organised in 2013.
It offers 17 categories covering all major aspects of the creative and technical areas of filmmaking.
Meanwhile, Abdul Karim said the state government was planning a number of incentives to encourage filmmakers to shoot their films in Sarawak.
“They must be encouraged as Sarawak is a spectacular location for filming.
"The state is the perfect location to turn film scripts into a visual spectacle of unforgettable landscapes, unique ethnicities, colourful customs and cultures,” he added. - Bernama
