Zuraida: Halted PR1MA housing scheme in Rantau expected to be ready in May 2020

SEREMBAN: The halted 1Malaysia People's Housing (PR1MA) scheme in Bandar Ekar, Rantau is expected to be completed by May 2020, says Housing and Local Government Minister Zuraida Kamaruddin (pic).

"The first contractor of the project faced financial problem so another contractor has been found for the project. Hopefully, the construction can start as soon as possible. Hopefully, it can be completed in May 2020," she said at a press conference in Bandar Sri Sendayan here on Sunday (April 7).

She said as the project was supposed to be completed by Jan 31, 2019, this would mean a delay of 16 months.

"I will personally ensure the construction works for this project to be started and continued," she added.

Zuraida said she has contacted the director of PR1MA and was informed that the new contractor has been identified and in the process of taking over the project.

The PR1MA housing scheme consists of 766 units, 210 units are single-storey while the remaining are double-storey units. The construction cost is at RM171mil.

She said 80% of the units were sold and the units are near to 56% completion.

"Things are under control as it was halted for six months. The ministry will ensure a credible contractor will take over and complete the project. It would be a waste if the project is abandoned as it is at 56% completion," she said.

Zuraida said she will also be meeting with the affected buyers later in the day.

After visiting the construction site, she was informed that PR1MA will use the same contractor for the project.

"This is to avoid complication in legal matters, according to PR1MA board of directors. We will have a better monitoring system to ensure the completion of the project," she said.
