SEREMBAN: Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad is right in stating that he, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, will be a better prime minister than former premier Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak, says the PKR president.
Anwar, who is prime minister-in-waiting, said that Najib had a poor track record based on his financial management.
"I think Dr Mahathir's view is accurate," Anwar told reporters at Kampung Sega Tengah near here on Sunday (April 7).
Anwar was asked to comment on the Prime Minister's recent interview with a local English daily.
Dr Mahathir said although he had criticised the PKR chief's ability to lead before, he found Najib to be a "worse leader than Anwar".
"The worst leader," Dr Mahathir was quoted as saying in the interview published on Sunday (April 7).
"I think that to have Anwar replace a person like Najib is more acceptable than to have Najib carry on, so I decided that I would work with Anwar – whatever I may have said about him, whatever he has said about me before," he said.
Meanwhile, Anwar said he had read the interview and appreciated Dr Mahathir's confidence in him.
"I really appreciate it," the Port Dickson MP said.
Anwar was present to campaign for Pakatan Harapan candidate Dr S. Streram in the April 13 Rantau by-election.
