EC: No complaints so far about children being part of Rantau campaign

PUTRAJAYA: The Election Commission has not received any complaints about children being "used" at an event held during campaigning in Rantau.

"I'm not sure if this is an offence under the Children Protection Act; need to check with the relevant authorities," said EC chairman Azhar Azizan Harun (pic) on Friday (April 5).

Pakatan Harapan is alleged to have used children when campaigning for its candidate Dr S. Streram of PKR in Taman Orkid a few nights ago.

Photos of children on a stage during what is believed to be at a campaign function went viral.

Commenting on the issue, Barisan Nasional candidate for Rantau Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan said the move was inappropriate.

"However, it is up to EC to determine if this nature of campaign is appropriate or otherwise," he said.

Former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak said children should not be used for campaigns, what more at night.

"This is not just unethical, but violates the law," he said in a posting uploaded on his Facebook page.
