FORMER prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak is seeking a review and specific remedies on the RM1.5bil tax bill he has been hit with by the Inland Revenue Board (IRB). He said he was also prepared to submit proof to authorities that the money he received was a political donation.
“We will seek to ask for a review and we will also seek specific remedies under the process because the basis of calculation, definition of income as well as the accounting is very much questionable,” he told reporters at the Parliament lobby. It was reported last week that IRB had sent a notice to Najib seeking the extra tax payment for the years between 2011 and 2017.
The report stated that the amount was on top of what Najib had already paid based on his declared income for the seven years.Based on IRB’s assessment, Najib had not declared taxable income of close to RM4bil during that period which included the RM2.6bil “donation” that he purportedly received from the Saudi Arabian government.
Najib said he was not prepared to reveal the full details yet.
“My tax people are working on it. Whatever it is, we have the facts on our side,” he claimed.
