Electricity disruption hits Miri Hospital

MIRI: There has been no electricity supply at Miri Hospital since 5am this morning following a sudden power failure.

The entire hospital was now functioning using generator set, said its director Dr Jack Wong.

"Our hospital services are affected by the power disruption.

"We have activated our contingency plan.

"We are now relying on our generator set to function.

"Members of the public coming to the hospital must follow instructions from our staff. We are doing all we can to overcome the problem," he said in a notice deployed via social media.

Miri Hospital is directly under the jurisdiction of the Federal Ministry of Health.

Dr Wong said the cause of the power failure was still being probed.

Miri Hospital serves as the regional hospital for the northern half of Sarawak. It caters to a population of about a million people living in the Miri, Sibuti, Limbang and Baram parliamentary constituencies.
