PUTRAJAYA: The Election Commission (EC) will announce the date of the Sandakan by-election on Friday (April 5) after convening a special meeting.
The meeting will discuss the key dates to hold a by-election for the Sandakan parliamentary seat which fell vacant following the death of its MP Datuk Wong Tien Fatt on March 28.
EC secretary Datuk Mohamed Elias Abu Bakar (pic) said Dewan Rakyat speaker Datuk Mohamad Ariff Md Yusof notified the Commission of the vacancy on March 29.
"A special meeting to be chaired by EC chairman Azhar Azizan Harun will be held on April 5 to discuss the possible dates for the Sandakan by-election.
"A media conference will be held after the meeting to announce the dates," he said in a statement on Monday (April 1).
Wong, who was Sabah's Health and People's Well-being minister, died from a heart attack at the age of 64.
