Crowds make a beeline for Petrosains

KUALA LUMPUR: Well before the doors to Petrosains, The Discovery Centre in Suria KLCC, opened its doors, a long queue had formed a beeline to the venue. They were eagerly waiting to be part of Petrosains’ 20th anniversary celebration.

First in line was Siti Hajar Wahab, 47, and her children.

“We are very excited to see what is in store for us on the first day of the week-long anniversary celebration,” said the mother of five from Cheras, Kuala Lumpur.

Admission was free for visitors on the first day of the celebration yesterday and the first 20 families also received a goodie bag comprising Petrosains 20th anniversary merchandise.

Throughout the week-long celebration, visitors can enjoy 20% off admission tickets and selected items at the Xplorasi Gift Shop.

Among the activities happening until March 31 include new science shows and workshops such as workshops on 3D elements, Robotics and Internet of Things (IoT), science talks from Malaysia’s Young Scientists Network, flash mobs, science and magical busking, trivia sessions, lucky draws and photo booths.

Visitors can also look forward to experiencing the newly refurbished Geotime Diorama exhibition area, featuring displays on geology and prehistoric creatures.

Impressive display: Ang Ting Ting, 45, and her son Tan Wen Zhe, nine, are amazed at the prehistoric creature displays at the Geotime Diorama exhibition area in Petrosains.

Petrosains chief executive officer Fedora Zulkifli shared that the celebration was organised as a way to thank all those who had supported the centre over the years.

“It is because of their support that we were able to grow from a science discovery centre to a globally recognised institution that

provides informal learning of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) and is regarded as an important supporting component in the nation’s education landscape.

“We hope to continue delivering more creative and impactful learning experiences that will inspire the younger generation in STEM,” said Fedora.

The celebration will also be extended to Petrosains PlaySmart satellite centres in Kuantan, Johor Baru and Kota Kinabalu.

Petrosains is located on the fourth floor of Suria KLCC in Kuala Lumpur and doors open from 9.30am to 5.30pm daily.
