Najib slams subsidy reduction for Haj pilgrims

PETALING JAYA: Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak has hit out at the Pakatan Harapan government for lowering the subsidy for Haj pilgrims.

The former prime minister said he had never allowed for Tabung Haji to increase the Haj cost for the pilgrims during his nine-year tenure.

"Tabung Haji had requested three times to increase the cost of Haj, while I was PM but I never allowed it.

"The Barisan Nasional government, while I was prime minister, never forgot the main goal for Tabung Haji – which is to facilitate Haj arrangements for the rakyat," he said in a Facebook post.

Making it easier for the pilgrims to perform the Haj should be a priority for the current government as well, he added.

The Pekan MP also said that Minister in the Prime Minister's Department in charge of religion Datuk Seri Dr Mujahid Yusof Rawa, had accused him of slander when he asked why the Haj subsidy was being lowered.
