PASIR GUDANG: Johor government has apologised to the media after they were barred from entering the Disaster Control Operation Centre (PKOB) at Menara Aqabah here.

“The incident happened when Tangkak District Council sent aid for the operation where it became congested and tense.

“The officer then ordered the premises to be emptied,” said state Information, Entrepreneurship Development, Cooperatives and Creative Economy Committee chairman Sheikh Umar Bagharib Ali in a statement yesterday.

He added that following the incident, PKOB highest management then allowed the media to enter level three at Menara Aqabah for them to carry out their duties.

“We will like to apologise to any misunderstanding that happened, especially to the media, and hope that the media fraternity are able to cover and report the latest updates on the chemical incident,” he added.

Sheikh Umar stressed that all the PKOB areas were restricted to the public and only journalists with the proper credentials are allowed to enter.

Johor Media Club president Mohamad Fauzi Ishak urged the relief management committee to be more welcoming to the media at Menara Aqabah and the Pasir Gudang Indoor Stadium.
