NILAI: All government affordable housing projects would be built using industrialised building system (IBS) technology by 2024, says Housing and Local Government Minister Zuraida Kamaruddin (pic).
She said the method was cheaper, faster and added that it would also reduce the government's dependence on foreign workers.
"It will help us meet our target to build a million affordable homes for more Malaysians in the next decade and it will also ensure the construction of quality homes.
"The IBS method is also the intelligent way forward as we need to work hard to achieve our target of building 100,000 homes a year in the next 10 years," she said when officially opening MGB Bhd's first permanent IBS pre-cast concrete plant here.
MGB Bhd, which has been using the IBS technology for more than 10 years has, to date, built some 15,000 affordable homes.
It is a subsidiary of property developer LBS Bina Group Bhd.
Zuraida said that more developers were now migrating to IBS technology and added that she expects that by next year, some 50% of all ministry projects would be built using the modern method.
