DOE bans open burning as wildfires shrouds KK in haze

A bush fire near one of the housing areas in Kota Kinabalu are contributing towards unhealthy air pollutant index in the state capital.

KOTA KINABALU: The Department of Environment (DOE) has ordered all types open burning activities be stopped as seven wildfires continue raging around the state capital, engulfing it in haze.

According to the department, the seven bush fires that have been identified were Bukit Indah Permai where some 2.5ha of land is affected, Bukit Sepanggar (about 5ha), Kg Kauluan (about 7ha), Taman Malawa, some 15ha area on hills near Taman Putera Perdana and IKM, and a secondary jungle close to the Desa Poultry in Lok Kawi.
