JOHOR BARU: Johor Ruler Sultan Ibrahim Ibni Almarhum Sultan Iskandar has pledged RM1mil in aid to help authorities' efforts in handling the chemical pollution crisis in Pasir Gudang.

Permaisuri Johor Raja Zarith Sofiah Almarhum Sultan Idris Shah said His Majesty was deeply saddened by the tragedy.

"Tuanku Sultan was especially affected by an audio recording of a crying man pleading for help for his child.

"The contribution is for the Fire and Rescue Department, police and other government agencies to purchase whatever is necessary to help victims," said Her Majesty in a statement posted on the Sultan Ibrahim official Facebook page here on Thursday (March 14).

All schools in Pasir Gudang have been ordered to close down due to the poor air quality, which has forced hundreds of students, as well as adults, to be hospitalised.

In an earlier statement, His Majesty has also called on the authorities to come down hard on the culprits as quickly as possible.
