KUALA LUMPUR: Wanita Umno chief Noraini Ahmad (pic) has been proposed as the new Public Accounts Committee (PAC) chairman, says Arau MP Datuk Seri Shahidan Kassim.

"On the PAC chairman, we proposed Noraini.

"We can only propose the PAC chairman's position but it is the government's prerogative to decide" he told reporters in Parliament lobby on Monday (March 11).

When met, Umno vice-president Datuk Seri Mahdzir Khalid confirmed that Barisan Nasional had submitted only one name as a candidate to replace Beluran MP Datuk Seri Dr Ronald Kiandee.

He, however, refused to divulge who the candidate was, only saying that the name would be submitted to Dewan Rakyat Speaker Datuk Mohamad Ariff Md Yusof.

Noraini, who is Parit Sulong MP, was tipped to take over the post from Kiandee, who quit Umno to become a government-friendly independent.

Kiandee became the first Opposition MP to head the PAC after the Pakatan Harapan government said that the position should be held by the opposition.
