GEORGE TOWN: Inshore fishermen have been accused of destroying the seabed close to shore with their modified nets which turn their boats into mini trawlers.

Teluk Bahang Fishermen Association’s Tanjung Bungah unit head Ismail Din said by modifying coastal seine nets (pukat kenka), they create something akin to trawling nets (locally dubbed pukat lohong) and drag them 200m to 300m at sea depths of no more than 3m.
