Two foreigners rescued after sailboat sinks off Melaka waters near Pulau Undan

MELAKA: The Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) rescued a Mexican and Portuguese national from their sinking sail boat off the coast of Pulau Undan here.

In the 3.35am incident on Saturday (March 9), the boat's hull had hit an unidentified hard object before sinking.

Melaka and Negri Sembilan maritime director, Maritime Captain Amran Daud said his team received a distress call from Lumut-based Maritime Monitoring System (SWASLA).

He said his team rescued the two foreigners about 0.1 nautical miles from Pulau Undan.

Amran identified the two victims as Terence Lam, 68, from Portugal and George Alfredo, 50, from Mexico.

He said the duo was on their way to Batam, Indonesia from Langkawi since March 3 before continuing their journey to Hong Kong.

"Both of them were uninjured and brought to Kuala Linggi jetty," he added.
