KOTA KINABALU: Efforts are being made to ensure that Kota Belud district gets enough water supply for the next padi farming season, State Agriculture and Food Industry Minister Datuk Junz Wong said.

He said with the district presently facing water supply shortage, and Kota Belud being one of Sabah’s padi producing areas, it was important that the matter was resolved.

“We are taking steps to ensure that Kota Belud padi farmers get enough water supply before the next planting season which is in a few months’ time,” he said yesterday.

Wong said the current dry spell was expected to continue until April.

It was reported that some parts of Kota Belud had not experienced rainfall for almost a month.

“I understand the situation experienced by the farmers. Although the drought is something beyond our control, we are finding ways to alleviate their plight,” he said.
