IPOH: Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia's campaign machinery is one of the factors that caused Pakatan Harapan to lose the Semenyih by-election, says Dr Lee Boon Chye (pic).
"Bersatu is a new party and they did not have the necessary machinery to support the campaign," said the PKR election system committee chairman.
Dr Lee, who is also Deputy Health Minister, said other factors included the people's grouses on bread-and-butter issues.
"The message from the voters is loud and clear. We are listening, not just hearing.
"People voted for Barisan Nasional not because they like Umno," he told reporters after launching a hearing awareness programme at Aeon Big Falim here on Sunday (March 3).
"It was a vote of protest. We have to look into the grouses of the people on the cost of living, which is the main issue we have to address," he said.
When asked whether the unfulfilled promises in their election manifesto was another factor, Dr Lee said "no comment".
Barisan's Zakaria Hanafi won by a 1,914 majority over Pakatan's Muhammad Aiman Zainali.
The seat was previously held by Pakatan's Bakhtiar Mohd Nor from Bersatu.
The by-election was called following the death of Bakhtiar on Jan 11 due to a heart attack.
It was the second by-election win for Barisan, following the win in Cameron Highlands.
