SEMENYIH: Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak has once again lambasted Pakatan Harapan's toll abolition plan, calling it a “ridiculous offer”.
The former premier ridiculed Pakatan's plan to introduce toll-free journeys during off-peak periods as well as congestion charges.
“I have never seen a more ridiculous offer. Pakatan, you are fooling the people. If you want to make the roads toll free, do it when people are awake. Not between 11pm and 5am when people are asleep!” said Najib at a ceramah organised by MIC in Rinching here on Thursday (Feb 28).
Najib told the audience during his administration, he had abolished 11 tolls.
“The people have been deceived because in Pakatan's manifesto, they promised to make highways toll free. But here, they have announced that there will be congestion charges during peak periods.
“When I was the prime minister, I got rid of 11 tolls including on the Cheras-Kajang Highway, the Batu Tiga toll, the Sg Rasah toll, the Bukit Kayu Hitam toll, among others,” said Najib.
He also reminded the audience that it was Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad who implemented toll collections during his first tenure.
“Who created tolls? Tun Mahathir did. He is the 'Father of Tolls’. That's why he won't abolish them,” said Najib.
Najib was speaking on the sidelines of the Semenyih by-election campaign.
The Semenyih by-election was called after Pakatan assemblyman Bakhtiar Mohd Nor died on Jan 11.
