SEMENYIH: The families of deceased Pakatan Harapan elected representatives have demanded an apology from Barisan Nasional’s Datuk Mohamed Satim Diman over an insensitive remark made by him at a ceramah.
On Wednesday (Feb 27) night, Mohamed Satim reportedly said during a ceramah that the deaths of Pakatan’s elected representatives were a divine sign from above that the people should choose the right party.
Adibah Ahmad, the wife of the late Seri Setia assemblyman Dr Shaharuddin Badaruddin, said such remarks were uncalled for and gave two days for Mohamed Satim to issue a public apology.
“As a Muslim, I feel that this issue shouldn’t have been brought up. We are shocked and we feel that those who put themselves forward as leaders should not speak like this.
“I pray that he will repent and think. He has his own family too. So, please understand our feelings,” she told reporters at Semenyih Sentral on Thursday (Feb 28).
Adibah was present along with Brian Lai, who’s representing the family of the late Balakong assemblyman Eddie Ng Tien Chee.
Lai said that they are not discounting the possibility of legal action if Mohamed Satim, who is Puchong Umno division chief, doesn’t issue a public apology.
“He has no right to utter such a statement. So we are demanding he apologise to the families,” he said.
“We are giving him two days to apologise. Otherwise, we will issue a statement,” he added.
At the same time, Adibah, in representing all the families of deceased Pakatan assemblymen, hoped that such insensitive remarks will not be made in future political campaigns.
"I feel angry, upset and sad. We are shocked because such remarks are being uttered,” she added.
Six by-elections have been called since the 14th General Election, four of which were triggered by the deaths of Pakatan leaders in Selangor.
The passing of Ng triggered the Balakong polls, Mat Shuhaimi Shafiei for Sungai Kandis, Dr Shaharuddin Badaruddin for Seri Setia, while Bakhtiar Mohd Nor for the upcoming Semenyih polls on March 2.
