Woman killed, man in critical condition in hit-and-run on Penang expressway

GEORGE TOWN: A hit-and-run accident left an Indonesian woman dead and a Bangladeshi man critically injured after a car hit two motorcycles on Tun Dr Lim Chong Eu Highway on Tuesday (Feb 26).

George Town OCPD Asst Comm Che Zaimani Che Awang said the police are tracking down the driver and independent witnesses have been identified.

According to initial investigation, the driver is believed to have fled the scene and a car was left about 200m from the scene of the incident.

ACP Che Zaimani said the victims were brought to Penang Hospital for treatment but the Indonesian woman, 41, was pronounced dead at the emergency unit while the Bangladeshi man, 35, is currently in critical condition.

"The CCTV footage will be viewed to aid in the investigation," he said.

The case is being classified under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for reckless driving, he added.
