Simunjan district in southern S'wak still facing flood woes

MIRI: Some 71 people in Simunjan district in southern Sarawak have been evacuated to a temporary shelter as heavy rain and floods persist in the region.

As at 8am today, 71 people from Kg Lubok Meranti had been evacuated to the community hall of Kg Lutong Sebangan in the district.

Kg Lubok Meranti has been under 0.7m of water since Saturday afternoon.

The Sarawak Disaster Relief Committee, in its latest updates on the flood situation this morning, said 19 households in Kg Lubok Meranti had to leave their homes due to the floods.

They will be housed in the community hall until the water recedes.

Meanwhile, parts of southern Sarawak continue to experience heavy rain and floods.
