KUALA LUMPUR: Bukit Aman has debunked a message making its rounds on social media claiming that police were looking for a man believed to be active in an organ harvesting ring.
The message also claimed that the man was a serial rapist and active in Malaysia and Thailand.
Bukit Aman Inspector-General of Police (secretariat) corporate communications head Senior Asst Comm Datuk Asmawati Ahmad said the message and pictures were spread by certain irresponsible parties aimed at sensationalising fake news.
“The message is fake and has been repeated several times since 2014 to create fear among the public,” she said in a statement.
She added that the police had received no such information or reports about kidnap for organ sales in the country.
