KOTA KINABALU: Sabah is expected to get two additional battalions of the General Operations Force (GOF) to boost security in the state.

State GOF Brigadier Commander SAC Datuk Zanuddian Samsu Hadi said the two battalions would likely be based in Sabah's east coast Kunak and northern Kudat districts.

"We are also planning to use these extra manpower to enforce and strengthen our main operations – Ops Taring PGA," he said during a press conference after their monthly gathering and a promotion ceremony on Wednesday (Feb 20).

He said Ops Taring is a five-battalion operation involving areas in Kudat, Kota Belud, Kota Kinabalu, Beluran, Sandakan up to Kinabatangan, Lahad Datu and Semporna up to Tawau.

"This is actually something we have already requested from the government," said SAC Zanuddian, adding they were only waiting for the proposal to be carried out.

He said the date of deployment was yet unknown, but had information that the base had already been identified, which is behind the Kunak Hospital.

Earlier during the event, a total of 22 GOF personnel received their promotions ranging from the posts of inspectors, sergeants, and sergeant-majors.
