SEMENYIH: The Election Commission has warned voters against wearing clothes with inflammatory words into the polling centre during the Semenyih by-election.
EC Chairman Azhar Azizan Harun (pic) said it was normal to wear clothes or bring in materials with slogans or taglines on them but the words should not be seditious, incite hate, provoke, nor threaten national harmony.
"Anyone wearing or bringing in such items will not be allowed to enter the polling centre. Please adhere to the rules so that everyone can exercise their democratic rights in a peaceful manner," he said in a statement.
The by-election on March 2 will be four-way contest between Umno's Zakaria Hanafi for Barisan Malaysia, Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia's (Bersatu) Muhammad Aiman Zainali representing Pakatan Harapan, Parti Sosialis Malaysia's Nik Aziz Afiq Abdul and independent candidate Kuan Chee Heng.
The by-election was called following the death of its assemblyman Bakhtiar Mohd Nor on Jan 11.
The late Bakhtiar wrested the seat from Barisan for Pakatan in GE14 by getting 23,428 votes with an 8,964 majority.
