KUALA LUMPUR: PAS has formally stated it will not support Umno in the Semenyih by-election, Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad said.

“We talked politics, all sorts of politics, including PAS in the Semenyih by-election which they will not be supporting Umno,” he told reporters after launching Democracy Fest 2019 here yesterday.

Dr Mahathir met PAS president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang for 45 minutes at Yayasan Albukhary here on Friday.

Asked to explain his remarks that PAS would not support Umno in the by-election, Dr Mahathir said: “They (PAS) will not support Umno and this is what he (Abdul Hadi) informed me. There is an admission of this in writing which was signed.”

Hadi had confirmed his meeting with Dr Mahathir but said he discussed administrative matters with the Prime Minister.

PAS had helped Umno during the Cameron Highlands parliamentary by-election and has also decided to sit out the Semenyih state by-election.
