Man braves burning home to save ailing father


PAPAR: A man suffered burns after he rushed to save his father, a stroke patient, from his burning home along KM25 of Jalan Bukit Layang-Layang here on Thursday (Feb 14).

Sabah Fire and Rescue Department operations chief Katizah Rahaban said Zuhaili Abdullah, 28, suffered burns to his hands from the act of valour but managed to save his 62-year-old father.

Zuhaili's mother, 58, and his younger sister, 23, escaped the blaze unscathed. 

Katizah said a team of 10 firemen from the Papar station arrived at the scene at 5.53pm, five minutes after receiving a distress call.

"The house was completely destroyed by the fire.

"The team managed to quell the flames at 6.12pm, and the operation fully ended at 7.45pm," she explained.
