Marzuki's integrity has been compromised over academic qualifications, says Perak Umno

IPOH: The integrity of Datuk Marzuki Yahya (pic) as deputy foreign minister has been compromised over his academic qualifications, says Perak Umno.

Its liaison committee chairman, Datuk Saarani Mohamad, said as a deputy minister for a very important portfolio, whatever he says carries weight.

“How do we expect foreign dignitaries to deal with him when he is not clear about his academic qualifications?

“If one does not have a degree that is fine, but integrity is no small matter.

“Tak ada, tak ada lah (don’t have means don’t have). Apa nak malu bossku,” he told reporters at a press conference held at the state Umno building here.

Bersatu president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin had said that Marzuki would remain as the party’s secretary-general, as his explanation on his "Cambridge” degree was sufficient.

During the press conference, Saarani also hit out at Keranji assemblyman Chong Zhemin for questioning former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak’s academic qualifications.

He told Chong that instead of attacking Najib, he should check on the academic qualifications of the current Pakatan Harapan assemblymen in the state.

“There are 31 of them here in Perak, and it is best for him to check with each of them on their qualifications,” he added.

Chong had said that MCA president Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong should question Najib about his degree, as part of his checks on Pakatan leaders’ qualifications.

He had highlighted a video circulating online, alleging that Najib never completed his studies at the university in the 1970s.

Chong had challenged Najib to publish the transcripts of his examinations and a copy of his degree to refute the allegation.
