Two cruise liners sail into Penang

GEORGE TOWN: The TUI Cruises’ Mein Schiff 3 sailed into town yesterday.

According to www.cruisemapper.com, the current itinerary of Mein Schiff 3, a cruise ship owned by TUI Cruises, started on Jan 30 and will end on Wednesday.

Also in town is the Queen Mary 2, one of the world’s largest luxury ocean liners, which sailed in at the Swettenham Pier Cruise Terminal (SPCT) here.

Queen Mary 2 is the largest of the three “Queens” operated by Cunard Line, a UK-based cruise operator.

The other “Queens” in Cunard’s fleet of cruise vessels are Queen Victoria and Queen Elizabeth.

Penang was chosen by Cunard Line as one of its destinations in Asia as part of the company’s “World Cruise” trip offered to its customers.

The liner departed from Phuket on Saturday docked at SPCT at 9am and departed for Singapore at 6pm yesterday.

According to the itineraries made available on the http://crew-center.com/queen-mary-2-itinerary website, Queen Mary 2’s future ports of call in Malaysia this year include Kota Kinabalu on Feb 15, Klang on March 12, Penang on March 13, and Langkawi on March 14.
