Mat Sabu: I never said I had a culinary arts degree

PETALING JAYA: Defence Minister Mohamad Sabu, who has been accused of faking a degree in culinary arts, says that he never claimed to hold such a qualification.

This comes in the wake of several Pakatan Harapan politicians who have had their education credentials questioned.

In fact, Mohamad Sabu, who is also known as Mat Sabu, admitted that UiTM had “kicked him out”.

According to a report by news portal Free Malaysia Today, the Parti Amanah Negara president dismissed the attacks against him, saying: “Some people say I have a degree in culinary arts. I never said that. Truth is, I never completed my studies at UiTM. They kicked me out.”

But Mohamad was quick to add that despite this, he was still a “good cook”.

He assumed that his aptitude in cooking may have led people to think that he acquired his culinary know-how from a college.

Mohamad also cited film director and social activist Hishamuddin Rais, who had likened him to the late Ronald Reagan, the 40th US president.

“Reagan did not have a degree but he led the United States,” he said.

The four other Pakatan Harapan politicians who have had their education credentials questioned are Deputy Foreign Minister Datuk Marzuki Yahya, Johor Mentri Besar Datuk Osman Sapian and Perak state executive councillor Paul Yong Choo Kiong as well as Housing and Local Government Minister Zuraida Kamaruddin.
