KOTA KINABALU: Two men were charged in the magistrate’s court here on Monday (Feb 11) for possessing untaxed beer, cigarettes and fireworks.
The accused, Tan Pick Len, 67, and Omar Kiftiani, 32, pleaded not guilty to the charges read against them before Magistrate Mohd Aizat Abd Rahim.
Tan was accused of having in his possession a total of 58,968 cans of beer of various brands, 2,512 bottles of beer, 180 bottles of alcohol and 12 packs of boxed wine, as well as 170,000 cigarettes of different brands at an unnumbered house on Jan 23 in Tuaran.
He is also charged with possessing more than 220 boxes of fireworks and firecrackers.
Omar was accused of possessing 170,000 untaxed cigarettes in the same place, at around the same time.
Omar was believed to be Tan’s driver.
Mohd Aizat offered the duo bail pending case management, which has been set on March 6.
Tan is ordered to pay RM15,000 bail with two local sureties for the first charge and RM10,000 bail with two local sureties for the second case.
Omar is offered a RM15,000 bail with two local sureties.
Both are investigated under the Customs Act.
