Vet leaders' qualifications, Gerakan tells Cabinet

GEORGE TOWN: The Cabinet should vet the academic qualifications of all leaders, as how universities do before hiring.

Gerakan president Datuk Dominic Lau (pic) said this should be applied to ministers, deputy ministers, chief ministers and mentris besar.

"This is a form of preventive action.

"For example, in my case, when I wanted to apply for a professor position, the university would go through my academic qualifications – my Bachelor's Degree, Masters and PhD.

"This is to check whether the documents are genuine," he said at a press conference during a Chinese New Year celebration at Penang Gerakan headquarters here on Sunday (Feb 10).

"We have the database (of qualifications) and we should utilise it," he said.

He also said that Deputy Foreign Minister Datuk Marzuki Yahya, who is among several Pakatan Harapan politicians whose education credentials are being scrutinised, should resign from his position.
