Seven 'mat rempit' arrested on DUKE highway in weekend crackdown


KUALA LUMPUR: Police arrested seven motorcyclists for dangerous riding along the DUKE Highway here.

City Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department (JSPT) chief Asst Comm Zulkefly Yahya said the arrests were made during two operations in the city over the weekend.

"We conducted an operation on Jalan Pahang and Jalan Raja Laut from late Saturday night and issued 414 summonses motorcyclists for various offences.

"We also arrested a Bangladeshi national for riding without a license and using a fake license plate on his motorcycle," he said.

ACP Zulkefly said they later conducted another operation along the DUKE Highway between 1.30am and 4am on Sunday (Feb 10).

"We arrested seven motorcyclists aged between 17 and 27.

"Among the offences they allegedly committed include racing, aggressive lane changing and performing the 'superman' stunt while riding," he said, adding that the youngest suspect arrested was a secondary school student.

ACP Zulkefly said they would continue to conduct strategic roadblocks in the city in a bid to reduce accidents during weekends.
