KUALA LUMPUR: A taxi driver was allegedly assaulted near KL Sentral here on Saturday (Feb 9) morning.

Brickfields OCPD Asst Comm Ruslan Khalid said the 53-year-old taxi driver was waiting for fares there when he was approached by the suspect at around 11am.

“The suspect immediately began assaulting him and members of the public who witnessed the beating managed to break up the fight,” he said when contacted on Sunday (Feb 10).

He said the victim suffered injuries to his face and legs and received outpatient treatment at a hospital nearby.

“The 33-year-old suspect was arrested to help with investigations.

“The cause of the fight is being investigated from all angles including personal issues and fighting for fares,” he said, adding that investigations showed that the victim knew the suspect.

ACP Ruslan said the case was being investigated under Section 160 and 323 of the Penal Code for committing an affray and voluntarily causing hurt.
