Body of rescuer found, search-and-rescue operations halted

KUALA TERENGGANU (Bernama): After extensive search-and-rescue efforts, the body of Abdul Bari Asyraf Mohd, 31, was found at 7.24am Sunday (Feb 10).

Abdul Bari was reported missing after diving into Sungai Terengganu to help rescue four occupants of a four-wheel drive (4WD) vehicle that plunged into the river on Friday (Feb 8) night.

Abdul Bari’s body was seen floating on the river by passers-by about 2.5km downstream from the site of the incident.

Terengganu Fire and Rescue department deputy director Sharikan Bustaman said the body was recovered by the search-and-rescue team and taken to the forensic unit of Hospital Sultanah Nur Zahirah here.

“The family has identified the remains. With the discovery of the body, we finished search-and-rescue operations officially at 8.30am Sunday (Feb 10),” he said.  - Bernama
