PETALING JAYA: A thief walked into a mosque in Setapak, Kuala Lumpur, during Subuh prayers and ran off with a woman’s handbag.
The 6.20am incident on Wednesday (Feb 6) saw the man sneaking into the mosque as a group of people were performing their prayers.
CCTV footage caught the thief opening a side door leading to the prayer hall and snatching a handbag nearest to him, which had been placed in front of its owner.
The victim and a few other women were seen chasing the man but city police chief Comm Datuk Seri Mazlan Lazim said he managed to escape on a motorcycle with the handbag.
“The victim lost cash and her mobile phone which together is estimated to be worth RM2,000.
“We urge anyone with information about the case to contact us immediately,” he said when contacted on Thursday (Feb 7).
Comm Mazlan also advised the public to be cautious and not take valuables with them when going to perform prayers at mosques.
